Using OSM maps offline

Here we explain the integration and use of QV-OSM offline vector maps as well as the use of the corresponding offline routing.

Install integrated packages

Click the Download maps button on the Start menu.

Here you have access to various servers with free QMV maps for download.

Select the server and the category:

Filter the category:

  • Country/Region/Type
  • New: Package is new, does not exist on the device
  • Installed: Package already installed
  • Update: package has already been installed, but there is a new version of the map on the server

Click on the package:

  • Download: Download and install the package

If possible, download only the map packages that are really needed, as the data volume can be quite large!
Please note the given file size (MB) of the card package.

Package already installed:

  • Info: Opens the map info
  • Delete: the map package can be deleted

Packages are always unpacked into their own folder in QVM_Data\Packages\ NAME OF THE PACKAGE.
Maps from the package are always sent to the active database in the table Packages.



In QV7-created OSM maps in QVM-W3

Self-compiled maps packages can also be integrated in QVM-W3. You will learn how to compile a map package in QV7 here.

After successfully compiling your map package, you have the following import options:

A QMP file can also be stored on a web server and can be opened (downloaded) from there using the integrated browser in your smartphone. Following the download, the operating system automatically asks which program (QVM-W3) the file should be opened. The import dialog opens and the QMP is integrated into QVM-W3 by clicking on Start Import. This URL (link to the QMP) may also refer to a web server (e.g., NAS) embedded in the local network, which has a significant speed advantage for the import.



Import via a cloud:

The prerequisites for data imports via a cloud are the software (such as OneDrive or DropBox), which must be installed on your PC, as well as on your mobile device!
You must also use the Cloud service account on both devices.

  • Copy the QMP files you want to import and upload them to your cloud. (e.g., to the QVM_Data/Packages folder)
  • Now open the corresponding cloud app on your mobile device.
  • Export the QMP files to your mobile device - it is useful to place the QMP files directly in the folder QVM_DataPackages.
  • Now open QVM-W3 again and click the Database button on the start menu. Select the database driver Card here to import your card.
  • Now click to go to the Import dialog. Here you select the directory in which you have previously stored the QMP files.
  • Select the QMP files you want to import and click the Start Import button.
  • You are now in the database.

Card import from the SD card:

The following method is recommended for QMZ maps that are not recommended to import from a cloud app due to file size.

  • Connect your phone to the PC and copy the QMV to a folder of your choice on the SD-card
  • Select the import DB and table.
  • Click Import.
  • Now select the SD-card.

Setting options for the display of the OSM maps

In order to change the display of the compiled or downloaded OSM maps according to your wishes, the following settings are possible:


The settings listed below apply exclusively to OSM maps (-packages) that are compiled themselves or installed from the QVM download area.

To access the settings, please proceed as follows:

  • In the Map window, tap the Menu icon.
  • Tap Info in the map content menu.
  • Scroll down the map menu to find the settings.

In the following pictures, we will show you how each setting option affects the displayed OSM maps.

  • zoom offset is a simplified way of setting the zoom factor from the card. the road network. The higher the value you enter with zoom offset, the sooner will show many street details on the map. If the value is set to 0, only important streets and place names are displayed from zoom level <14.5.

  • zoom offset poi is simply explained a setting possibility, from which zoom factor in the map POIs are displayed. The higher the value you enter with zoom offset poi, the sooner will show POIs on the map. If the value is set to 0, no POIs are displayed from zoom level <14.5.

  • Factor line width is a simplified explanation of how to adjust the width of displayed roads.

  • Factor font size is a simplified way to change the font size; e.g. of displayed streets and place names.

  • Factor poi size is a simplified way to adjust the displayed size of POI icons.

  • Area transparency is a simplified explanation of the transparency of the displayed map. This is useful when you use an OSM maps as a second map (overlay) via a satellite image or similar. Value 0 is equivalent to no transparency, maximum value 1 is equal with complete transparency.

Use offline OSM routing

In order to use offline routing, ie the *.qmr file of an OSM package, please proceed as follows:

  • Open e.g. the .qmv card in the project manager and create a route.
  • Select Routing Local routing file .
  • For Routing file, select the offline routing profile you want to use. Click OK.
  • The route will be displayed to you within seconds on the selected map.

The Routing will work on all maps that cover the area selected when the package was created, or that covers the downloaded package from our download portfolio. For routing is no internet connection necessary.
